I bought an ipad! Yea-but now I can not find the cool apps I found when I first explored-I know there was one for the Louvre and the National Gallery but I can't find them.
I like the ipad but it makes me feel like I know zip-well I guess I do know zip-had to email my son to tell me how to turn it off-that is pretty bad-will say if you buy one map out lots of time for your "free demo set up"-otherwise they want $$ to teach you one on one-I thought that was not too cool-that demo was really a sales pitch which again I was not happy about-so I will learn from my kids-just a heads up if you give in.

Thing 11 surprised me the most-I thought I knew a lot about safety on line but I was wrong-this lesson by itself should be part of any in-service training that we do.
My favorite lesson will still be creating a voki and learning about glogster. These will def. be part of my classroom instruction.
I like learning in this manner for when I had time I could do several lessons but then other times I might start one then go back and finish it. I really like working at my own pace but also knowing that I could go to the beach on certain day and play with others. I also like having all the lesson kept online so I can go back and review what I don't remember.
Thanks for all the work you all put into this class.
Now I am off to set up my digication page for my students to use this year.

This was by far the best and perhaps most important lesson. I have bookmarked many of the different links so that I may go back and refresh my understanding. This is a huge issue and one that may get worse before it gets better unless all educators and parents understand this cyberworld.
My 5 lessons would have to be 6.

1.Give credit where credit is due-don't seal-it is not fair to you or the person you took it from whether it is a report, music, or a video clip. As several of the sites said-check the fine print.

2. As Frank said on Dragnet:"Just the facts." Check up on the site or the person you are reading. Get more than one source when doing any kind of fact finding. And don't just use Wikipedia-anyone can put those facts online and they may not be true.

3.Before giving your name, address, phone number, etc. to any site look for the s after http-especially if you are buying something.Never use your full name to post. When TAEA posts art work created by students, we only use their first name-nothing else.

4. Use manners online be careful what you say and how you say it. Remember, people can interprete what is said in a way that you never intended. In an email to a parent, I though I was saying I hope you do well to my student for his tennis game but the parent read it as I hope he does well on my final. Not at all what I meant to say but the same words.

5. Spellcheck-this is my best friend since I can not spell and it checks your gramme. Even my paper this morning had a typo in their running of the Declaration of Independence-they did not capitalize United for United States of America. So spell check and read aloud to yourself before you submit. I have gone back a edited several of my posts here and I bet I still have errors.

6. Use the Internet wisely-text wisely-protect your identity.

I looked around second life and though I understand the basic idea of an alter ego-I would not continue to play something like this. I don't even like playing video games except for Rock Band-I do play that. I would much rather go into a different world through a really good book or a movie. Since I got netflixs, I have been watch a lot of documentaries and been exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking. I just don't see how I would ever want to do something like second life. I mean I just am not interested. Give me a book or TCM! (Tunner Classic Movies)
Now from an art viewpoint, I could see using this as a springboard for my students to create their own avatars and create an imaginary world, but I certainly would never play something like this in front of them. I guess I am just too old school for this. I do have students who do cos play and role playing games-many spend all day and all their money on re-creating their identity and I can see how that could be fun to role play all day as someone else. They keep detailed journals with photographs that they have shared with me and it looks like it means a lot to them. I know that in Japan, they take these second life games very seriously-many even going to work as the character that they are in this altered world. Don't think that would go over well with SBISD if I came to school as gooder lionheart.
I did think the concept was interesting but I just wouldn't stay with it.

A big advantage to using a slide share program is that it is readily available be to all. A student can't leave it at home since it is already uploaded. Students in all of your classes could quickly see what all the other students did for any given assignment. And again-that student who is home bound or ill, can look up what they missed that day.
If I had known about this and used this on a presentation I just gave, I could have saved a great deal of time and solved technical issues that I had at the hotel.
I will use this. It will also save me from having to burn copies for othere-they can just click and see what they need.

Ok on my first try with link #1 -I got a warning that this site was a security risk-not sure what is going on have restarted my computer and will keep on trying. This looks really interesting and a great way to prepare for a presentaion. I do want to learn more.

Could not watch or go to the first web site-Microsoft stated it could not display it and it removed it from my vision. This is about the third time I have been unable to access links in this class. Not sure why.
Jingle-am trying it but the screen print button seems much faster to me than using this.http://screencast.com/t/ZGEzNGJlMD is a map to SBMS.
I honestly don't see myself using this but it was interesting to watch-and I would use it for giving driving direction. Funny that Google maps doesn't even have my school in the right place and has Spring Forest in the Freeway!

PBS ROCKS! I can see art 21 which is a outstanding series on current artists. I bought the entire set of all 5 seasons and use these artists in my class all the time. Had I known they were online-look how much money I could have saved.
I can see this being used a lot but a teacher would have to have a video projector or a smart board-I have a projector but elective teachers will not be given smart boards-yes I know I could use the one in the library but I don't.

Blinkx had exactly one video on an artist and you first had to watch a TV commerical before you could see the art clip which was annoning to watch do to the overly viusal background. Ok ya'll have given me just one more reason to want a MAC-I tried to keep and hide my green mac that I used to have in my classroom-I loved it's old school lines! But the ipad is just the coolest thing I have seen. My son has one and I spent time playing with it this week- looking at the aps. It is so easy to use, fast, and such a sharp image. I went to the online apple store and looked under aps for art and low and behold they have the Louvre collection ap and the National Gallery ap-on my son's ipad it was an awesome experience-you can type in a word like hope and it would bring up multi images of paintings that expressed hope-I was looking under Da Vinci so hope gave me 20 Madonna faces painted by him.
I did a photostory during CEDFA on a imac which brought up all kinds of tools that I do not have on my dell-one of the other art teachers there had an iphone so he took a group picture -then using his phone he changed all the colors and made all of us look very surreal. I have been allowing my students to use their camera phones for their homework assignments and I have been blow away by the quality of pictures that they have taken and altered right on their phones. Then they just email them to me and I grade it from my computer. One girl took such beautiful pictures that I printed them out on quality computer photo paper and she entered them in Jr. Vase. Both images earned her a gold medal. I see apple as leading the way to how to engage children in the classroom. I really wish we had more mac in SBISD. Guess I will go to the store and get an ipad-I really think I deserve and need one especially for visual arts.

Facebook is a lot of fun if you have time-we have been warned at our school against having any contacts with our students on Facebook. I can honestly see how it would work if all played by the rules, but these are kids that we are working with and they do crazy things without thinking. We have had issues with students creating fake Facebook pages pretending to be a teacher or administrator at our school. When you hide behind another identity, it is easy to say things you would never say outloud if people knew who you were.

I have joined many educational Facebook sites and have really been helped by ideas and lessons that teachers all over the world have created.

I tried the twitter today and I guess I don't get it-I am just now getting the hang of texting and I don't have a smart phone so I honestly don't see myself using this.
I can see how this would help a student who is out from school-they could get the jist of a lesson and keep up-plus they could be part of the lesson by responding.

It is a brave new world and I am trying to keep up!

I just uploaded a video to Teacher Tube-I created it in animoto and posted it under fine arts-It is called Jr Vase 2010 and this is an art competion that is side by side with UIL. It is an excellent event. Students create art, answer written questions about the art work, then talk one on one with a judge about their art work. They are then rated on their art work and their interveiw. A 4 is a top gold medal winner and these images are all 4s. Team is for prek-5th grade, Jr Vase 6-8,and high school Vase 9=12. All 4s from jr Vase and HS Vase are then judged a second time and the top picks from the second round earn a regional medal. The HS regional winner then have their art work judged a third time at State Vase which has art from all over the state. From the State winners earning a 4, the very best of these 4s earn a gold seal. This year the MFA Houston is hosting the gold seal winners July 15-through mid Aug.

I played with cool iris yesterday-It will be a huge help in my classroom but I need to check to see if you can set "safe search" before I allow my students to use it. It makes the images so much easier to view.I learned about cool iris on the 10 classroom distruptions blog which I enjoyed reading. Last night I watch a show that had a college classroom using phones to take notes and find reaserch-it tied right into this blog.

I did not try Skype since I do not have a webcam but I know a lot of people who do and they all love it. This could be a great way to contact a museum that has a major show and have a docent talk to my class about it. Using a computer projector and external speakers, the images could be veiwable to the whole class. I could contact an artist who would be willing to give a video dmonstration to my class and the students could work along with the master teacher. I see this as a great tool for all subject areas. It would also be fun to interact with students in a different country.

My sister's family all use this as a way to stay in touch with her son in California.

I have had so much fun today-but computer issues continue to interupt my play. Lots of freezing and work lost.
Wordle is so much fun and fast, wordshift is interesting but I am not so sure I would use it. I think a core teacher would love to use this.
Glogster again was fun but it took me awhile to figure out how everything worked.
My favorite was the Voki-will def. use the Voki in my class-will also use glogster and wordle-I used wordle in a presentation this summer and everybody enjoyed using it-I like the tip about printing the screen-hadn't thought of that.
Am going to see if I remember how to add to my blog.
Does anyone know how to save this blog but awitch the whole thing over to gmail? Yahoo and my laptop do not get along and I must use yahoo to get into my blog.

I see this video as the wave of the future and I need to understand how all of this works to keep up with my students. I have used the power of photostory and animoto both in my classroom and at presentations. And have started but not completed a voice thread presentation.
This video is very simple-straight forward-and easy to understand. It is going to make me go back to last summer's work and reveiw the news feed-I had a lot of trouble with that part plus the fact that I did all this work in Yahoo and my lap top won't work with Yahoo-Geek can't tell me why so I switched to gmail-now this won't open in gmail-could this be like the PC Mac thing?
Last week at CEDFA, we created a short video like this with video, audio, voice over, and text-it was a lot of fun and can toghether with ease. I also observed my students this year creating computer videos in many of their classes.
Could a librarian be the teacher-they already are teachers in mu opinion and I have been fortunate to know and admire several that I have worked with

This has been the very best summer class I have taken since 1968! I have learned so much, understand so much more than I did before, and have all kind of new ideas and projects to use with my students. I just know this will be a great school year!

I am already a member of a NING group, http://arted20.ning.com/ ,is a site I joined last year and I have really enjoyed the interacting much like what I saw on Educator Ning and Ning for Teachers.
I have not tried to put assignment up for students to view, do, then have me grade. I read several accounts on the Educator Ning where teachers were doing this. I thought this was an interesting way to give assignments but I wondered what a teacher would do with students who do not have a computer nor have access to one. We do interactive history notebooks at mt school and mt art students come in before and after school to use my student computer to complete these assignments. What would happen to them I wonder if I put my art assignments on a NING?I think it would go the way of the homework assignments that I post of my teacher wesite-they don't look at it.
It is a new world out there.

See below-I was able to finish this with help from Vaughn! Word to the wise-read your comments!!!!

I did not have the necessary downloads on my computer nor could I get photostory 3 to download.(my compter got almost throught then said it had found an error) I did a search on my computer-found what my compter said was photostory-saved it to my desktop using the directions as stated on Library2Play after I saw no where to upload to a blog. I looked through everything on the site I was using-still no upload to blog. Could send in email-upload to an mp3 player but no blog. I still have what I created from my own pictures plus text,plus music on my desktop-tried adding it through gadgets-none worked-tried the other site in library2play-those wouldn't work either. (I left it trying to upload through gadget photo for over 2 hours!) So I did the assignment-used a few photos I took in Italy but here they sit on my desktop. I loved being able to use pictures I had, add text, add music then have a finished product-BUT-I could not do anything with what I spent all afternoon on except save it to my desktop. The icon shows a photo of a cartoon family with an arrow pointing to the right surounded by a round rainbow. Does that mean anything to anyone??? If I were a kid-I would have given up-but I have spend another hour trying to figure out how to upload when there was no upload on my site nor was I able to go from Library2Play highlighted instruction to anything like what was on their video podcasts. The fact that it was stated that this was on my computer was not correct. Very frustrated but still enjoyed the creating part!
I did have the necessary things-I just didn't know where they were-I did a search and finally up popped Photostory 3 so if you have problems-contact me and I can help you. As the Beatles said "I get by with a little help from my friends!"

I enjoyed this exercise and learned a lot. I checked out the travel and food, and will go back to these sites. I will use with my students two sites, Million Masterpiece and Visual Complexity Color. These two were by far the best of what was under visual arts. What a crime that an add for a paint company (Color Blender) was ranked one and it had several suggestive advertisements on it page at the top-right where my 8th graders would have zoomed in. The last site Swivel should be under business not art. I would never have included this site nor the one ranked #1. Even though Benjamin Moore paint is the best.
Have been waiting to get an ok for Million Masterpiece so I can join in and paint-so far I have not gotten a password back-but the rest of the site is worth the look.

I did not like Open Office at all-I found it to be hard to follow and very little there that I would find useful for me or my classroom. I just didn't get it. After I registered, I thought I must be on the wrong page since it was nothing like what I had read. I guess I need some one on one to get this site.
Google Doc on the other hand was much easier and right away I found all kind of documents, templates, etc. that I will use. The more I played around the more I like it and have added it to delicious. For me, this was a much easier site to use.

Anyone know how to get more than one tab open at a time?

Rollyo looked great-I made my own list then the fun began when I tried to link it to this blog. Zip. I also had to get going between rollyo and what I was searching for since my computer only allows one thing opened at a time-I finally did all of my searches-pasted them to a word document, then trasferred to my roll. I also could not get it to add another person's roll to mine dispite what the video showed. Once again written directions would help more than a video.
As a result-I doubt that I would use this in my classroom althought I can see how usefull it can be-no worries about students changing the search filters on your computer.

I'm taking care of my 94 year old father today so I showed him my blog. He was very interested in how I had added things to the computer espically when I explained how you can take a picture, download it to a computer-then print the pictures out.

Love the Wiki-what a great tool to connect students in other classes doing the same projects. Can also see using this for conference planning and in services. My favorite Wiki was Book Lovers-I could spend a lot of time here so I put it on delicious!

library 2.0-I think that we are on the cusp of making our students more interested in school and helping them retain what they are learning. I want now to go look at Open World Cat and see what have been created since the article I read was published. I also like the quote that the library is a social and emotional center while 2.0 is a strategy guide. Also the overcrowded classes like they showed in the video is much like the way I went to school and my sons did. We must change how we teach to meet the iPhone, blogging, facebook generation. Both my sons are in careers that are new and they totally use computers in their line of work. They blog, facebook, twitter and use RSS every day. I hear my students talking this way and I now see ways of sparking their interest. They are like the girl in the video with the sign I am a multi-tasker.
But me, I will always need a "collection" of books-I like to read them and re-read and to go to the library and picks them out.
My nieces do not do this-they use Kendal's or download to their ipods and keep up with the latest books.
I still prefer Libraries.

I guess someone who had to go from SMU to TCU just to see what computers were all about and to be on a computer for the first time is now cursed to be on speed dial for SBISD Geek!!!

So now I am getting mad at my dell-I just got knocked off again by Internet explorer-this is getting tiresome. I've cleared cookies and history but still get getting the problem error message.
Anyhow I made an interesting discovery. I went back to prior things and added them to delicious and tagged them. I get it now. Funny thing is that the hospital where I am working (brought my 94 year old father in for an outpatient check) blocked several of the web sites that are on the list.
I found Technorati to be interesting and fun. I checked out several art sites and fun videos which have kept me entertained while I wait. I don't plan on becoming a big blogger so I didn't want to register my site-I like having it in house with fellow teachers
I just don't know if I would continue to use this site. (I do have it on delicious)

I also solved another problem I have had with my lap top. I would be typing along and suddenly my curser would be somewhere else on the page because I touched the screen below the keyboard. I made a trading card-printed it on index paper-cut it out-and tapped it over the screen-YEA-no more messed up typing! I am one of those people who just has to have a mouse!

Is anyone else having internet explorer problems? I need getting messages that it needs to close down or that I need to work off line. It has taken me awhile to do Thing 13 as a result of this.
Am I putting too much on this school computer by joinging so many websites?

I tried delicious but by the time I got them, I didn't remember all the steps and had to go back. Again this is a problem for a tactile visual learner like me. I really need a book to go with this not just watch a video then go do it.

I found the selections under art to be pretty weak but I will try several sights. I need find a few artists that I had not heard of and enjoyed on of the artists featured in Wired. I tried to add it to my RSS but again did not remember the steps and I hadn't signed up for delicious yet so I couldn't bookmark it there. I just don't spend this much time on my computer and it seems as if my computer is running slower and freezes more. Igoogle freese every time I leave it so I now sign out of it as a vistor to my site recommended-Thanks! I need all the help I can get.

I can also see how tagging would help you find things quicker, so I will keep at it. I am going to start a journel of steps for each section. Will go back a re-read taking notes how to do what I have already done.

I am not sure that I would really use this service-I could I guess use it as a homework source for my pre-ap class but I don't see how this is better than just saving to favorites. Remember this is all new to me.

I looked over several of the suggestive sites-most were interesting-a few I honestly thought were a bit full of themselves. One thing I learned-was to be honest and open-invite comments-ask questions and my favorite was from Blue Skunk-don't be a troll. But I was a troll, since he no longer allows comments! I enjoyed his writing style and openness.
I see now looking at most of my postings that I am short with responses and am not really saying a lot. So I am off to view others.
I must say that Confused in Suburbia really heped me when I first started this project and that Mamalibearian has given me wonderful feedback. I also checked out two of my best buds (Schock's blog and Schocking news) from school and found their web sites to be so much like themselves.
Will continue to add to this section.

This could be useful but I am not so sure that I would keep up with it-I rarely do book clubs and I had trouble listing some of my favorite books-I even used title and author and some still could not be found.
I did enjoy75 Book Challenge and What are You Reading-I could see myself checking in with them from time to time.

I love the comic strip site-I can see 6th graders creating some really funny things. For my pre-ap class, I could see then working with glogster to create a graphic image which they could then turn into something else. Some of the other like image chef was just too cute for me.

I liked Syndic 8 and added a site called Free technology for teachers to my google reader and igoogle (yes it is still there! Just hope I can still see the cool google logo changes on special days)
I thought topixnet was too weird-don't need my students to be reading about what a homosexual demon is-don't think this is an appreciate site.
Too many of these just didn't look that interesting.

Just talked to my sons-both use RSS in their work so i am glad to have learned something new. did try on the 4th to add a few sites but it didn't work so I need to go back and reread the directions.

I can see where RSS could help core teacher to keep up with the latest information. As for me, I prob. wouldn't use it that much but I did add it to my igoogle page which won't go away!
I found searching for sites to be a bit harder than the video claimed and some things open wihile others don't. I do believe that I will need to use it more to fully understand.
As a visual learner-I get real frustrated when I can't have written instruction in front of me. Don't show me a video or tell me how to do something and then expect me to remember the steps-I need to see it and do it before I get it!!!!!

So far I like the playing card the best and the add ons for a blog. Just wonder if anyone is out there looking at this.

I thought igoggle was pretty cool until I realize that it had taken over my computer and then everything froze hmm not cool. Not sure if it is my wireless of the distirct Dells, but my locks up why too often.
Picasso is a great web way to share pictures-I have lots of friens who send me their summer pics this way and it is easy to view.

Ok Flickr is really cool-can see using that with my art students. I joined and uploaded a picture I took in Italy but how to get that onto my blog from Flickr-hmm-another frustrating road block. I have to keep printing out information from SBISD on how to do things.

My question is what kind of blog are we???? I haven't a clue.

Also I love being able to fix what I have typed wrong!!!

Now I am really frustrated-had a tool which let me remove the blamk boxes-but now it is gone.

Have redone the step-still no picture.

Thing 3 Starting a Blog

Ok so I am almost 60 and never used a computer until the mid 90's so I am way behind.
I am a lifelong learner as I am trying to keep updated with the world and all that is current.
I believe you must continue to learn to keep your mind active and to talk to your students.

I found starting this to be very easy and I appreciate the backup help that SBISD has given me when I ask.
This is my first blog-no twitter-face-book-etc. so I am not totally sure how everything works.
